Has anyone else been charged an assistant fee? And how much am I look to spend on it? Good grief...I already know I'm going to pay a $500 co-pay to the hospital. I hope there isn't any other hidden fees.

How much is the fee?  I have found some Drs. try to squeeze out as much money as possible especially fees that they know ins. companies won't pay for.  The Drs. office I started with did that and I changed practices not long after.

My doctor's office fee is $300. But because I was referred by an existing patient, mine is only $200.

In many cases, you will have to keep an eye on your doctor's billing office to ensure that its billing practices are in your best interest.  Just as the previous poster stated, some offices will try to balance bill you miscellaneous fees that were not previously communicated--all because the office knows that the insurance company will not pay for the services. You will want to note though that if your provider's office is contracted (participating) with your health insurance provider, balance billing should not be taking place.  All charges should be submitted to the insurance company.  Usually, your responsibility ends with your co-pay or co-insurance.  You might want to call your insurance company for more information though. I hope I was able to answer your question appropriately.

BE VERY CAREFUL I have read several accounts of Drs charging anywhere from 0-5500 in  additional fees above and beyond what insurance covers as "program fees"  Whils some are reasonable, for dieticians adn other actual services most are just profit.
